Silmarillion: Unforgiving by wolfanita Silmarillion: Unforgiving by wolfanita
From Tolkien's " Silmarillion":

Very short and easy:
Feanor (the most short-tempered elf ever born) and Fingolfin are half-brothers.
Feanor created the Silmarils (gems with divine light in them) and Morgoth (aka Melkor), lord of darkness, stole them (cause he can).
So Feanor made an oath to pursue anybody who unrightfully laid/lays hands on the Silmarils with all his wrath (and he has plenty).
He convinced most of the other Noldor elves to leave Valinor and return to Middle Earth to fulfil that oath, which brought to his family a curse from the Valar, leading once more to the common betrayal, hurt ego and bloodshed.
Feanor left Fingolfin on a lonely shore, sailed away and instead of returning to fetch him, he burned all the ships (duh).
Since Fingolfin and his people had to take the dangerous overland route where many of them died, you can't talk of a healthy sibling rivalry anymore.

Dammit Feanor, this is why we can't have nice things!

I love that you're making Silmarillion comics; they're really hard to find and you seem to find the same snarky humor in it that I do. ^_^

Oh, the Silmarillion is such a rich source for gags - the bigger and more dramatic the story, the easier it is to mock. ;)

Hmmmm. Well, first, join the dark side. They seem to have cookies. 2. Eat the evil cookies. 3. All your dreams will come true. I think.....meh. I wonder what Feanor tastes like.

I always wanted one of those Dark Side / cookies shirts...
I have no real urge to find that out, I think Feanor is a jerk, even if he tastes of cookies. ;)

Yes, Feanor is rather dwarvish for an elf, isn't he?

Ah, yeah... Feanor's betrayal, leading to the treacherous ice crossing. That's how Galadriel entered Middle-Earth. With Fingolfin over the ice.

I like your humorous depiction of these stories, it's awesome.

Oh, Fingolfin. You shouldn't have opened your mouth in the first place (by which I mean, you shouln't have given your brother the idea of abandoning you in a lonely shore).
Every time you upload a new Silmarillion drawing you make me want to read the book so badly! :D

I'll read it as soon as I finish reading The Lord of the Rings. I know it's not exactly a humorous book, but the fact that it tells the story of the origins of Arda and the people of Middle-earth is totally fascinating

I'ts quite different from Lord Of the Rings. When I first read it ten or twelve years ago, I didn't really like it.

For me it was quite confusing at times because there are so many names and most characters have at least two of them - was a bit like learning your vocab back in school.

Yeah, I heard that Elves have like 3 names each. (Or was it two? What I remember reading after researching about Maedhros is that they had one name given by their mother and another one given by their father. And they (or at least some of them) happen to have a name in Quenya and another one in Sindarin and it indeed becomes too confusing.)

And sometimes they change their name or get a sort of "battle name" - you really notice that Tolkien was a linguist.
If only he had made the same efforts with the dwarven family trees: You just know the name of one single dwarf lady, and that's Dis. No mothers, no daughters, nothing. But the sissy elves get five names each - plain unfair. ;)
