The Hobbit: Daddy! Part Four: Childish Fears by wolfanita The Hobbit: Daddy! Part Four: Childish Fears by wolfanita
That was just too silly not to be drawn.
The disturbing thing about this is that I'm pretty sure Thranduil would actually be able to slay the beast just with his rolled magazine.

The fourth and last Hobbit Daddy! picture, but future LotR Daddies or LotR/Hobbit Mummies are possible.
Next Tolkien fan art will be the 50th.

I LOVE EVERY. SINGLE. BIT. OF. THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, all the little details are AMAZING. Thrandiul drinking a glass of wine (a reference to his party/drinking habits in the book, I'm guessing?) the fact that he's holding a "Gems Monthly" magazine (a nod to the White Gems from the film?), the cute little Moose (or is it an elk? I can never tel, but either way it's cute) plushie for Legolas to hold, the fact that he's even got on cute little pjs with green leaves on them.....the magazine being rolled up to squash the spider is perfect, a cute little nod to parental spider-slaying everywhere XD

And of course, the fact that the spider in the little prince's room is not a regular spider, but a MIRKWOOD spider. Those things are freaking scary huge. If I didn't know better, I'd think they were somehow related to the Acromantula colony in the Forbidden Forest and they just migrated somehow to Middle-Earth.

But I think Thrnaduil will be able to handle it. He might want to get something a bit more deadly than rolled up magazines, though, unless he plans to banish it to the afterlife with the mother of all papercuts XD

I laughed till I almost choked myself reading this. XD I love tiny Legolas calmly telling his dad about the spider and Thranduil's general awesomeness. You are so right, he would take it down with just the magazine! He looks awesome in a bathrobe and slippers but then he looks awesome in everything.

The only thing that would look horrible on him, too, would be white tennis socks in trekking sandals.

This entire series is fantastic. I d'awwed at all of them. You do a fantastic job drawing the characters, not to mention placing them in adorable domestic situations. Wonderful job! I shall now distract myself from work for the rest of the day looking at all of your adorable illustrations.

Yeah, I'm also pretty sure the spider has no chance against the rolled-up magazine and Thranduil's Judgemental Glare of Doom 8D

This is why no matter how many sexy elves live there I wouldn't ever go into mirkwood.
Fascinating how Legolas stays so calm when calling his dad for help. I would have been running around waving my arms and making unintelligible sounds if I had been in his place.

But you make them all so cute. Not just the obvious little Leggy but even the spider doesn't look as icky as some other members of its species.

You don't wave your arms facing your king Thranduil, son or not. ;)
Thank you! Yeah, everything I draw looks cute somehow in the end, even Azog. I'm not sure where that comes from...

He's got an anti-arm-waving aura around him, right? ;P

Having everyone look cute is definitely preferable to everyone looking ugly IMHO.

Alternate possibility: wee!Legolas is not afraid of spiders, refrains from telling his Ada, and becomes quite enamored of the idea of a secret friend or pet that talks.  He hides his new friend under the bed, in his closet, or the darkest portion of the ceiling, as appropriate, and sneaks soup to feed his friend.
Of course, this is a spider who got all the way to the young prince's room and just fell asleep without hurting anyone, so I am sure there souls be no awful consequences.
eventually, of course, the spider would get too big, be found out, and have to be released into the forest.
The friendship continues.  Either the Company really earned Legolas's enmity for killing his buddy (I hope not) or Legolas terrifies an older Gloin and highly disturbs everyone else when he brings an unexpected companion to the gathering at Rivendell.

Well, Legolas would somewhat different with arachnid influence.  As for the same spiders, as long as the spider gets food, I doubt it would care if it was hunting with other spiders or an elf.  Spiders do consume other spiders in nature.

Again, real spiders.
Since the Mirkwood spiders are the offsprings of Shelob and Ungoliant, creatures of pure darkness that just accidentally have the shape of a spider, they are evil. Tolkien logic, not mine.

How...nevermind.
This brings many a joke to the tip of my tongue, but all refuse to parse correctly in an intelligible language. Bah. Too bad we can't rely on osanwë.
Now now,. Poor spider. So this again is a proof that Thranduil is a cruel jerk and a racist. Wait, he's blond; a nazi.

I was being ironic about the too many self-righteous people over the Internet who see Nazism in everything.
And being German doesn't makes you automatically a blond, does it?

But maybe Nazi jokes are still uncomfortable and I'm being insensible? I am seriously asking you because I have absolutely no clue.

Thought as much, but you never can be sure here.
Actually I am a born dark blonde, but the blond Nazi is just a cliché. Ever looked at the Nazi leaders? None of them was blond. Or tall. Or anything. That's why they had to compensate so much by yelling all the time wearing pompous uniforms, so they could feel big and mighty.

We have many and very nasty Nazi jokes here; the thing is that the word is used for so many improper things, like people who call you a Nazi if you're merely saying them they are standing in your way before a door. That's just idiocy and bad taste. So most of the time people who use the Nazi word lightly, demonstrate ignorance and stupidity this way.
So, if you want to appear cultured and clever, better be careful with Nazi-terms. :)

I agree. I just got annoyed with some elves haters from D&D at the time, and thought how the movie version of Thranduil wasn't going to help the character's memory in pop culture.

I love how they portrayed him in the movie.
Finally a sinister cool elf whose teeth I don't want to smash for his annoying oh-so-perfection and stupid stunts.
(I am a Legolas-hater since I first had read the book, one might notice.)

I am not overly fond of Legolas myself, and do enjoy Thranduil's original distance or rigidity, his heated moods and stubbornness, his fondness of wine and songs.
But in the P.Jackson's movies, Thranduil is cold, uncaring, unable to show his feelings willingly even to his son, and has the sensibility of a jerk, barely minding the Axani of Eru anymore.
Don't you think that goes a bit beyond being just imperfect?

That's a huge difference and since I still like him in both media, I worry that the masses will hold his racist bias and his scorn from the movies against him even more that the fanon already did before.
