The Hobbit: Gandalf to the Rescue! by wolfanita The Hobbit: Gandalf to the Rescue! by wolfanita
This is a TSDD, a "Too Silly to be Drawn Decently".

I quite loved the first two thirds of BotFA. Everything I didn't like about the last third, Gandalf was so kind to summarise for me.
I wrote this directly after I had watched BotFA the first time, but it took me till now to draw it.
The drawings are much simpler this time.

With this, I have made my peace with BotFA and I don't feel like I have to say too much more about it. :)

I think I share your opinion. Nostalgia worked and there were realy brilliant moments but those bad moments were headdesking. Gandalf summarized it masterfully. And in such funny way... :D

This is so perfect! It sums up so many of my feelings about the Battle of Five Armies! I always joke that Tauriel was crying because she and Kili didn't get to celebrate their Three Hour-iversary.

Yes, that obtrusive so-called love story felt like it had fallen right from Twilight to Middle-eath. But what can you do, blame the studio, the writers and director can do much better normally.

Oh yes. It's crazy just how much the studio ruined things. You can literally see what was the writers, and what was the studio. "Here's a beautiful scene with Bilbo crying over Thorin... NOW HERE'S SOME CRAP ABOUT TAURIEL AND KILI!!" Lol xD
I wish so much to have seen the original vision for the movie, also if it was given the time it needed to breathe.

I think that Tauriel and Kili should have formed a friendship that would inspire Lego to be less of prick and that would be why he could few decades later get along with Gimli. Romance and that melodramatic tragic end were completely unnecesary. Why does everything nowdays have to get sexualized?! :shakefist:

While many people are incapable to understand more subtle and complicated emotions nowadays, even the most stupid people still understand sex, so you can make a lot of money with it.
That's why there's sex and/or needless cheesy love stories stuffed into nearly every story lately.

Completely agree, especially about the forced love interest, the sudden change of characters and the appearance of Legolas. The book was much more interesting and wasn't side tracked by a romance plot as the story was about the love of gold and the love of friends. I personally believe that the films should have been two films and concentrate more on what was in the hobbit rather than three and try to pad it out with nearly everything mentioned in the appendices while making the third film an effective warhammer fantasy battle.

Omg this is so accurate. i completely agree with all of these things, especially the one with Tauriel. She and Kili had only talked like two or three times and when did they even learn each other's names? If you watch DOS, you'll see that they never tell each other what their names are. I'm not the biggest fan of Tauriel tbh, but i'm fine with her being in the movie, I just think they shouldn't of added that love story crap between her and Kili. It really blocked out the brotherly bonding time that Fili and Kili could of had throughout the movie.

Great comic btw. :) (Smile)

I have something to say: It is not fair how you treat Kili or the movie (more the movie than Kili) only because Fili died.
Haven't you read the book? Everyone who read the book and watched the movie know that Thorin, Fili and Kili would die. Like Balin.
I've read the book before I watched the movies and I was nearly crying when I first saw Thorin, Fili, Kili and Balin because I knew they were going to die.
What is it why you are so upset with the movie?
Like I said, I read the book and I like Fili too but seriously?
Don't you think you are a bit unfair?

Anyway, I like this comic. Someone really had to say something about all of them ;)

You're not seriously asking me if I have read the book? Okay, now that's insulting.
Maybe you should look a bit at my other Tolkien art and read the descriptions to answer that question.
Btw: It seems you haven't read this description, either.
There I say clearly that I really liked most of the movie.
I'm not mocking Kili because Fili died, I'm mocking Kili because he is completely overhyped and gets far too much attention while his brother gets none - which still wouldn't be so annoying if Kili's storyline wouldn't be such badly written, forced on crap.
Not because Fili is my favourite dwarf, which he isn't, but because I hate it if one sibling is preferred and the other one is ignored, especially if you look at what scenes you get instead of Fili.
If you still don't know what I mean, read some of the comments under my Fili pictures; I have discussed this matter more than enough.
No harm meant, but next time, read before you comment.

... This is really embarrassing!
First: Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you!
Really, I'm sorry about it!
I've read the description but maybe I've forget it quickly...
Anyway, I'm sorry.
That is completely understandable, all of it.
With that Kili Part, I can understand it.
I'm wondering why Peter Jackson preferred Kili... But maybe because Kili is younger?
I hope you forgive me, I can't say how sorry I am to make you feel insulted.

Okay.
I don't think that has so much to do with PJ, but more with the studio, that wanted to make that forced love story even bigger. And maybe because you can sell more Kili merchandise to young teenie girls because he has no threatening beard. Who knows.

Phew ;)
Yeah, maybe...
I have to admit that Kili is a hottie. And like I said before he is the younger one of the two so he would show more emotional scenes with Thorin. Richard Armitage himself said that he thinks that Thorin Night have a soft spot for Kili because he is the second Prince aand his younger nephew.
But, let'so not discuss about that!
You have your opinion, I have Mine :)

That might play a part, too, that I don't think Kili's so attractive, so no hormones blur my view on that character.
No harm meant against Aidan, who sure is a nice guy, but for me Kili too often looks a bit too dumb to be attractive; not much light on behind the eyes, which is, for me, the key to beauty. I prefer more edgy faces, that get the more interesting the longer you look at them, because of what's going on behind them.

But I'm traumatised on that subject, anyway.
I was a young teen when the nineties boygroup mania began and most of my friends got hysterics because of those wailing posterboys. Then I noticed my disinterest in such weichgespülten Bubischnuten and I even developed a sort of allergy against posterboy overhypes.

Was the same when LotR was new and that Legolas hype came up.

But each to his own. Take him, I gladly take from what's left.

Yes, probably.

I liked this one so much when it originally came out that I forgot to leave a comment! :o (Eek)  Your well-intentioned criticism of cinematic excess at the cost of story or all the good EE-content stuff hit the center ring. Gandalf was the perfect voice for it too. Thranduil and the irritated bat are the best. Clap The final panel wrapped it up nicely! :D (Big Grin)
