Some impressions from the forth -and last- Hobbit Con in Bonn.

When we got out of the bus in Bonn (after a six or seven hour drive from Berlin), of course it was raining heavily and we got soaked, hence the stuff before the heating. We shared our room with James Dean, sadly that didn't make us any cooler.
So many beautiful dresses I can't wear - maybe better that way.
My table with Becky, who kindly does this stuff for me. My table neighbour was Jenny Dolfen, on DA known as Gold-Seven (we each bought a print from one another). On the last picture you can see how much I 'enjoy' being photographed.
The stage, again with Smaug. For the first time we sat before the microphones and didn't have the waiting people in our view.
John Callen and William Kircher, both their movie brothers were absent.
The Con was as usual presented by Mark Ferguson who did a wonderful job as always. The Con veterans Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, Mark Hadlow and Stephen Hunter with John Bell, who visited the Con for the second time.
Mark Ferguson and Craig Parker - I won't even try to describe what those two did on stage.
Sauron presented us Middle Earth Got Talent, featuring amongst others a singing orc, a sabre-wielding Sithlord, a breakdancing Jack Sparrow and a violine playing Uruk-hai. In the end they all played in the band with Dallas Burnett singing AC/DC's Dirty Deeds.
Dean O'Gorman and Graham McTavish had to cancel and seemed to be as sad about that as we were; they made three Blair Witch style videoclips in which they said that Mark Hadlow's holding them hostage (he didn't know about that). They tried to escape, but in the end he got them both. Incredibly funny, and a great thing they made such effort.
Mark Ferguson, Lori Dungey and Craig Parker singing at the Opening Ceremony.
The Comedy Hour, featuring the usual suspects.
Billy Boyd caused massive LotR nostalgia in us and was incredibly funny. He called Dominic Monaghan on stage who instantly played along.
Ryan Gage who -unlike Alfrid- was a really nice guy and wore his flower crown with style.
William Kircher showed us very private photos from the Hobbit shoot involving a whirlpool and claimed he has Aidan Turner's underpants since this day. He showed them to us and they were actually quite ugly.
Like almost all people playing villains, Dallas Burnett and John Tui were really nice guys. Dallas proposed to his girlfriend on stage, the hall went wild, she accepted and I think I saw John Tui wiping a tear. I will always have to think of that when I'll see Bolg from now on.
The costume contest. Such amazing stuff, I'm in awe again every time. I think the Dragonsickness Thorin was an especially cool idea, he made the second place in the single category.
The absolutely deserved winner in the single category was Sascha, the warg rider. He also won two years ago, as a dwarf of Erebor.
Ryan Gage and John Bell. Why are the young guys sitting on chairs drinking coffee while the older guys jump around on stage like fleas?
The Kiwi Comedy Hour - featuring Craig Parker giving a parody of Kim Kardashian - what shall I say more?
The Closing Ceremony. The dwarves sing Misty Mountains, everybody's touched, Jed Brophy hugs his son Sadwyn.
As if that hadn't been enough, Billy Boyd sings Last Goodbye, breaks our hearts, Con's over, we're free to go.
When the hall was pretty much empty, the staff people came together for a group photo.
Loot: A signed print of my Knock! Knock! (extra thanks to Jed Brophy who signed it for free) and lots of compliments for my drawings (John Callen and William Kircher are such old charmers), including of course also those from 'normal' people, if you understand what I mean.
Billy Boyd signed an Inner Took print in exchange for one.
And: A cosplay by DA's Nayavenne, based on my Yavanna design. How cool is that?
Ergo:
Was an amazing con and lots of fun, I hope it won't be the last time I'll experience something like that.

Art Theft
If you ever drew any Greek Mythology, please have a look here and check if this colouring book is using art stolen from you, too, as it does with my Gods of Ancient Greece - I know I've seen some of the other drawings here on DA: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091WJ6R5L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And please let Amazon (and the publisher) know what you think of people selling stolen art as their own, even if it's not yours. EDIT: Also, I discovered another of their books using art of mine: https://www.amazon.com/-/de/gp/product/B092469NWP/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i10 They also have books about Norse gods - please check out if they're using your art!
Tired of this shit
It's good they now (sometimes) put "contains racism and that's not okay" warnings before old movies and books, but could they add warnings for misogyny, homophobia and religion-based discrimination too and not just put that before the old stuff, but also the contemporary one, and not just before movies and books, but also songs, series, comics, paintings, games, TV-shows, plays, operas, musicals, lectures, apps, ads and magazines - or would whole industries then have to shut down for not keeping up with the warnings because there's still so much of all this stupid bloody shit everywhere? Btw: That was a rhetorical question.
Happy Eclipse to me
Talking about the "community" under new Eclipse - this year was the first time since I joined DA that I didn't get a single Happy Birthday note. I missed those; it was just a nice annual little extra. I don't blame the people, but new Eclipse; you get no notice about birthdays, you can't leave a comment directly on the profile page anymore, finding nice emoticons is a mess, navigating is a mess, finding your messages is a mess. Oh, what a 'great new community'. I won't extend my core membership, that much is sure.
Thistle Energy
(Okay, after wasting three quarters of an hour to find out how new journals work now and trying to find out where to find help now, then accidentally finding out myself by clicking somewhere I would never had suspected to be the correct source and finally finding out how to submit a new journal - I'm already sick of Eclipse, don't forget to leave DA a feedback for that disservice - I can finally write what I wanted to write an hour ago when it was still fresh in my mind.) I had to talk on the phone with somebody, freelance jobwise, and I had talked to that person once before a couple of weeks ago. Back then I had had the impression that they were a bit slow, but no harm done. So today we talked again and suddenly they began to utter statements and opinions that were just inacceptable - morally, intellectually and simply from a decent common sense point of view. I don't want to give any details, so I can't be more precise; whatever you imagine might be more or less the right

Like all true Tolkien-based journeys, you got rained on, what unlooked-for accuracy! The actors all looked like they were having fun at the con. Then again it was a favorable crowd, so they could perform without fear of rejection & bad reviews. Damn, the costumes and cosplays were amazing! I feel so lazy about it now... (I am totes afraid of pricing those wonderful elven garb. ) It is way cool how somebody turned a design into a cosplay. Yes, I am totally jealous you got a Billy Boyd autograph.
